Doctor, Which is the Best Toothpaste – Dantkanti, Colgate or Sensodyne ?

10 out of 9 patients make it a point to ask the dentist – Doctor, which is the best toothpaste to make my teeth healthy and strong ?

Should I use Ayurvedic one ? How is Sensodyne ? I use Patanjali – is it the best ?

Answer:

It is the Brushing technique that makes the difference – NOT THE TOOTHPASTE. Essentially all the toothpaste have more or less the same combinations – with varying constituents that’s what diversify them. But they essentially are more or less the same.

The most important thing is to understand that there are 2 main types of toothpaste in the market – REGULAR ONES and the DESENSITIZING PASTE.

  • The Regular ones are for all of us.
  • Only if you have a sensitivity (Generalized and NOT Localized) issue – Then ONLY You should use DESENSITIZING PASTES.
  1. REGULAR ONES: Are all branded pastes- Close up, Dant Kanti, Dabur Red, Colgate (unless specified), etc.
  2. DESENSITIZING PASTES: Sensodyne, Colgate Sensitive, Vantage, Thermoseal, etc.

YOU SHOULD USE A DESENSITIZING PASTE ONLY IF YOU HAVE GENERALIZED SENSITIVITY OR YOUR DENTIST HAS PRESCRIBED YOU SPECIFICALLY. DO NOT USE DESENSITIZING PASTE LIFE LONG.

ARE AYURVEDIC PASTES BETTER ?

When you press your Ayurvedic Toothpaste – Do you get liquid/ leaves / spices/ powder of natural things or you get a Paste ? – Well you get a paste – that means even if it claims to be ayurvedic – it is still CHEMICALLY PROCESSED.

NEVER USE POWDERED FORM OF TEETH CLEANERS. IT ABRADES YOUR TEETH (Monkey Brand, Colgate tooth powder, Lal Dant Manjan)

So, to conclude – Don’t be a victim of Marketing strategies used by the companies to promote their toothpaste brand. Select the paste whose taste you like and rather than focusing on which toothpaste. Focus on BRUSHING TECHNIQUE (will be discussed in later blogs).
